ON THE TERM "LEVEL"

ZETETIC COSMOGONY:

Conclusive Evidence
THAT THE WORLD IS NOT A

A STATIONARY PLANE CIRCLE.

ON THE TERM "LEVEL."

Advocates of the globular form of the world often fall back on the meaning of the term "level," affirming that a level surface means an even surface and not a horizontal or flat one. That is to say that a convex surface if free from irregularities is even or level. In "Nuttall's Standard Dictionary," 1892 Edition, page 409, the following is the definition of level—"Horizontal, even, flat, on the same line of plane." This shows that level is the same as horizontal or flat, and could not possibly apply to a convex surface. In the "Cruise of the Falcon," by E. F. Knight, the following occurs on page 2 of volume 2: "There are no curves on the way, the rails being carried in one perfectly straight line across the level plains." Level here means flat or horizontal, as the plains in South America are known to be for thousands of square miles.

"Robinson's New Navigation and Surveying," page 25, says: "The spirit level, which is usually on the underside of the Surveyor's transit instrument, is used to determine a horizontal line. A horizontal line is at right angles to a vertical. It is a level line."

The following is from the same work, page 33: "To adjust a theodolite, measure very carefully the distance between two stations, and set the instrument half way between them. Now bring the level near to one of the stations, level it carefully and sight the rod. Note the number on the rod, say six feet, and have the rod man go to the other station and place his target on the rod just six feet. When the telescope is turned upon it the horizontal spider line ought to just coincide with the target, and will, if the instrument is level or in perfect adjustment." From the foregoing it is very clear that level means horizontal and cannot mean convex.

G. F. Chambers, in his "Story of the Solar System," pages 84 and 85, quotes Sir H. Holland as seeing the eclipsed moon with the sun above the horizon. I quote the following from Mr. Chambers: "This spectacle requires, however, a combination of circumstances rarely occurring—a perfectly clear eastern and western horizon, and an entirely level intervening surface such as that of the sea or the African desert."

In a lunar eclipse such as described, the sun is distant from the moon half a circle, or 180°, both luminaries being 90° from the observer, so that on a convex surface it would be impossible to see both bodies at the same time, but quite possible from a level or horizontal surface, which actually was the case. To see about 6,000 miles to the sun on the one side and about 6,000 miles to the moon on the other side, one would require to be projected 4,000 miles into space above the horizon of the globe in order to overcome the convexity in the distance. Thus, level, we are assured, means horizontal or flat, or on the same line of plane, as the dictionary informs us. In the "Voyage of a Naturalist," by C. Darwin, page 328, the following is stated:

"I was reminded of the Pampas of Buenos Ayres by seeing the disc of the rising sun intersected by an horizon level as that of the ocean."

The surface here referred to was a flat one, and such are called Llanos or level fields in South America. Level, therefore, signifies flat or horizontal.

  1. Three comments from Flat- Ice on YouTube that tell it like it is!

Flat- Ice 2 days ago: Here is a fact. I live near a lake that is 40 miles long from dam to backwater. It`s normal elevation [normal pool] is about 750 ft elevation measured and built from sea level. If the earth was a ball, at the center point [20 miles] there should be well over 1000 ft of elevation. But every sq ft of lake always reads level from any point. There is no curvature anywhere on entire lake. Water in a container will always be flat and level.

Flat- Ice 1 day ago: If elevation is the same for every sq ft of lake, then it is level. It is impossible to have level if there was different elevations on lake. You should have written; curvature on lake has many elevations, but none have ever been found to date,so you are correct. a level lake [same elevation on every sq ft] cannot have curvature but will have same elevation at all locations.

Flat- Ice 1 hour ago My prayer for the day: oh Lord You know that I don`t ask for much and I try to solve my problems with the understanding and skills that I have been given, but I am asking today for a shield of protection around my brain from the wrong knowledge coming from deep "thinkers" who are not or cannot think clearly, and from the negative signals entering from the aether to be stopped before they penetrate my mind and I am no longer able to think clearly with common sense. We know that every piece of land receives it`s elevation height measured from sea level and not from the core of the earth since the deepest hole ever drilled is only 8miles and scientist are still trying to decide if the core is made of iron or silicon and besides one can not find any tall buildings or lakes which were built from taking measurements from the core. All have been built from sea level which is the same from all points in the seas. Read about the Suez Canal [101 miles long] when Napoleon`s chief engineer concluded there was a 30 ft difference in water level between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. He reported that building a canal would be impossible. Later that was proved to be wrong and it was found that both seas are exactly at the same elevation [level] and everyone`s fears were taken away and we have the canal today. This proved that no sea or lake has curvature.

  2. 1. Lake is level at all points? Based upon WHAT. Measuring with a "spirit level."

That measures level on a "local" area W.R.T. the vertical of the radius to the center of gravity below the level.

    FLAT EARTH LOSE

    2. Elevation is the same for every square foot of the lake. Based on what? A GPS reading? Again, each measurement you take is going to be W.R.T. the center of gravity of the earth, and the sea level of the GEODETIC DATUM.

    FLAT EARTH LOSE.

    3. Flat - Ice can pray all he wants. He'll get no answer, and no supernatural protection fro the reality of the globe.

"We know that every piece of land receives it`s elevation height measured from sea level and not from the core of the earth since the deepest hole ever drilled is only 8miles"

And, pray tell me, just how does that make sense or any difference??

The fact the The Mediterranean and the Red Sea match in mean sea level in no way proves that there isn't a curve.

    The logic here is so flawed, Mr. Spock would {FACEPALM}

  3. FLAT or level.

If you measure the "Level" of a 100 foot distance, or better yet, the STANDARD Surveyor's Chain (66 feet) you will find it to be level within the ability of ANY spirit level or surveyor's transit.

If you calculate the SAGITTA of a spherical chord over that distance, you will read 0.00 FEET SAG.

    FLAT, and LEVEL.

However, if you measure the SAG of 100 MILES, you will get: 6668 feet of SAG..,

It is all a matter of scale.

On a local level (ha, ha) the earth is FLAT and LEVEL. But when you scale out to miles or hundreds of miles, you get a different story.

    CURVATURE.

    1. In a hundred miles there is over 7000 feet of curve, so easy to prove there is NO CURVE. How far we can actually see with the naked eye EASILY PROVES NO CURVE!
